The week in AI 10th March ’24- a quick summary

The past week was a reasonably juicy week in AI. As we get into the new week, here’s a quick recap so you’re all caught up:

  • The week started with Elon Musk suing Sam Altaman and OpenAI – the primary reason for the lawsuit alleged that OpenAI had lost its way and was illegally using a Non-Profit for Profit. The tie-up with Microsoft being the sticking point. If anyone’s been tracking Microsoft stock, they do seem like the biggest beneficiary of said tie-up. They are, after all, the 2nd most valuable company on the planet.
  • OpenAI responds: Halfway through the week, OpenAI put out a blog post responding to the lawsuit and clarifying their position. The jist of it: This was Elon’s idea all along anyway the only tweak seems to be Microsoft instead of Tesla!🍇 Check out our POV here!
  • Anthropic dropped a Magnum Opus😏 – with Claude 3 and their latest update with Opus. It outperforms the others by a significant chunk! (PS: we have a comparative piece between Gemini and Claude coming your way soon, so stay tuned!)
  • Midjourney launched a turbo mode for v6 which gives you images 3.5x faster 🚀, however for twice the cost💸. Guessing its a niche use case!
  • Midjourney also updated their /describe command for v6 ; from the horses mouth:

“This new algorithm is made to give longer, more detailed prompts, in the style of our community and is specifically tuned for our V6 models”

  • OpenAI adds new board members

“We’re announcing three new members to our Board of Directors as a first step towards our commitment to expansion: Dr. Sue Desmond-Hellmann, former CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Nicole Seligman, former EVP and General Counsel at Sony Corporation and Fidji Simo, CEO and Chair of Instacart. Additionally, Sam Altman, CEO, will rejoin the OpenAI Board of Directors.” Read more here:

  • Google makes core update changes to how their Algorithm evaluates AI based content. Basically value added content will now carry the most weight. Trash AI content is going to get put in the trash🚮 bin. Read more here! GG WP!

That’s all the big stuff. See you for next week’s round up. If you found this useful, share it with your friends, family, dog, whoever. For every share, this cute pup gets good boy scritches.
